It's still unknown why all the other men on board perished, because Lyon had no memory of what happened after they escaped. The assumed sole survivor is taken back to Coruscant for questioning. Only 37 of the 200 men sent on the expedition made it on the ships, but only one survived. One of the 2nd unit's ships is found crash landed in the grassy plains of Naboo. Now all that's left to cover is how the chaos that is soon to come will unfold. So that ends the introductory section on how the necromorphs enter the Star Wars universe. The phrase "Make us whole" repeats in their heads, like a knife digging into the skull. They become frantic and anxious as the team descends further down.

As the excavation team digs deeper underneath the planet's crust, the engineers begin to act strange. Its surface is made of hard, jagged blackish-purple rock that resembles obsidian. The second team comes across an ominous planet that appears to have been long abandoned.

Three teams in total, each with about 200 men. In a desperate effort to sustain their forces the Republic sends out a fully capable team of engineers accompanied by armed clones into the unknown regions.

The Galactic Republic is running low on resources and fuel for their fleet. I think we will assume the Milky Way galaxy was taken over by the necromorphs around the same time the Clone Wars reached its halfway point. This would explain why it hasn't come in contact with many lifeforms yet. Somewhere in the unknown regions, hidden deep inside a planet. Considering the black marker in the Dead Space timeline was found in the remote Arizona desert, I think the first marker in the Star Wars galaxy will be found in the middle of nowhere too. I'll assume for the sake of allowing the necromorphs to enter the galaxy that there are marker artifacts within the Star Wars galaxy.
